The 4-Phase Registration Journey

Track registration progress for each phase of your Ofsted application — the Tracker keeps every requirement visible so nothing slips through. KinderStart's Registration Tracker organizes your path into four distinct phases. Each phase builds on the previous one, ensuring you complete requirements in the correct order.

Phase 1: Foundations & Legalities

Before you submit your application to Ofsted, secure your founding qualifications.

  • 12-Hour Paediatric First Aid: Must be a full, "face-to-face" or blended course. Upload your certificate using the Tracker.
  • Level 3 Safeguarding: The industry standard for lead practitioners.
  • EYFS Training: A deep dive into the Statutory Framework.

Phase 2: The Paperwork & Policies

Childminding is a household commitment. Use the Tracker to manage the vetting of every person in your home over the age of 16, plus complete all required policy documentation.

  • Enhanced DBS Checks: Track your application status and the 30-day "Update Service" deadline.
  • Health Declaration: Ensure your GP has signed your suitability form.
  • Property Consent: If you are in a rented property, obtain written permission from your landlord.

Phase 3: Preparing Your Home & Practice

Your home doesn't need to be a mini-nursery, but it must be safe and stimulating. Use the Tracker to complete your statutory audits:

  1. Risk Assessments: Conduct a room-by-room audit. Check smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and garden security.
  2. Floor Space Verification: Use the Space Calculator in our Tools Hub to verify your capacity based on the 2.3m², 2.5m², and 3.5m² statutory requirements.

Phase 4: The Official Application & Inspection

The final phase is submitting your official Ofsted application and preparing for the Registration Visit. An inspector visits your home to assess your suitability. Follow up with parents for any missing fields before submission.

  • Use the Tracker to practise your Mock Interview.
  • Be ready to explain how you will identify a safeguarding concern and how you will plan for each child's individual learning journey.

💡Independence with Ofsted

The Ofsted Route. Registering directly with Ofsted provides full control over your business model and avoids agency commissions. KinderStart acts as your "Digital Hub," providing the same compliance support an agency would offer.

⚠️The Regulatory Clock

Never Miss a Deadline. The registration window is usually 12 weeks from the moment you submit your application. Use this Tracker every Monday morning to tick off your progress and ensure you never miss a piece of statutory paperwork.
