Good News: It is usually automatic
If you registered with Ofsted after January 2014, you were likely automatically registered when you ticked "Yes" to providing food on your application.
Check Your Status
You are legally responsible for ensuring your registration is active.
Pre-2014 Registration
The automatic system didn't exist then. You likely need to contact your council directly.
Change of Service
If you originally told Ofsted you wouldn't provide food but now do, you must notify the LA.
Wales & Scotland
The rules differ; you usually need to register directly with Environmental Health.
Manual Registration Process

Visit the Gov.uk Registration Portal and enter your postcode to find your authority.
Business Classification
When prompted for "Business Type", select "Childminder" or "Home Caterer". Use your expected launch date for "Opening Date".

Level 2 Mandatory?
FALSE. You do not legally need a certificate to register. However, you must have adequate knowledge. Most childminders take the Level 2 course (~£15) to prove this to Ofsted.
Separate Inspections?
UNLIKELY. For childminders, the Local Authority usually delegates the check to Ofsted. You generally won't get a separate "Star Rating" sticker on your door.
