Planning an activity from an observation

When you save an observation with a next step, KinderStart offers to plan an activity for it. The activity goes straight onto your weekly plan, so what you plan follows from what you saw.

1. Record the observation

Open the Tools tab and choose Learning Journey. Tap +, choose the child, and describe what happened. For a full walkthrough, see Recording an EYFS observation.

2. Link it to the EYFS

Tag the area of learning, then the exact sub-area, for example Mathematics, then Numerical Patterns.

3. Write a next step

In Next Steps, write how you'll build on what you saw, like "Offer funnels and a water tray to extend her pouring."

4. Save and plan an activity

Tap Save Observation. A sheet asks Plan an activity for this next step? and shows your next step. You have three choices:

• Ask KinderAssist: two ready-made ideas, one indoor and one outdoor.
• I'll write my own: add your own title and description.
• Not now: save the observation without planning anything.

5. Write your own idea

On Write your own idea, enter an Activity title and, if you like, a Description (optional). Tap Continue.

6. Schedule it

On Schedule it, tap Date and pick the day. Under Who is this for?, check the right children are selected. Tap Add to Weekly Planner. You'll see Added to the Weekly Planner with the title and date. Tap Done.

7. Find it on your weekly plan

Go back to Tools and choose Weekly Planning. Use the arrows to move to the right week. The activity is under its day.

When you run the activity, tap Log an Observation on its card. That starts the next observation from the activity, and the cycle begins again.
