Signing the Personal Plan

If you're registered with a childminder in Scotland, your child has a statutory Personal Plan — a Care Inspectorate document covering their needs, the support your childminder provides, and their well-being goals. It's reviewed and co-signed by both of you every six months, and you'll do your half of that from the KinderStart Parent App.

💚 Finding Your Personal Plan

  1. Tap the Menu (top left) on your Activity Feed and select Personal Plan — this only appears if you have a child registered with a Scottish setting.
  2. If you have more than one child there, choose which one first.
  3. You can also get here directly from that child's profile screen, via the Personal Plan button described in the Completing Your Child's Registration guide.

💡Nothing here yet?

If your childminder hasn't created a Personal Plan yet, you'll see a note explaining they'll do so within 28 days of your child starting, with a Share Starting Points button — tapping it lets you tell them what you already know about your child before that first plan is written.

🌈 What's in It

Once a plan exists, you'll see:

  • A status banner — Co-Signature Required (amber) if it's waiting on you, or Plan Co-Signed & Active (green) once you've signed
  • The Review Schedule — when the plan was created or last updated, and the date of the next statutory review, six months on
  • Needs & Habits — your child's current needs as your childminder has recorded them
  • Agreed Support & Care — what support they've committed to providing
  • Developmental & Wellbeing Goals, written against Scotland's SHANARRI framework — whether your child is being kept Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible, and Included
  • A Statutory Signatures summary showing whether each of you has signed, and when

✍️ Reviewing & Co-Signing

  1. Read through the Needs & Habits, Agreed Support, and Developmental Goals sections in full.
  2. Tap Review & Co-Sign Plan.
  3. Draw your signature on the canvas and tap Confirm & Co-Sign.

Your signature and the date are recorded immediately, and the banner switches to Plan Co-Signed & Active.

Why it matters

Co-signing isn't a formality — the Care Inspectorate requires every Scottish childminder to hold an up-to-date, jointly-signed Personal Plan for each child, reviewed at least every 180 days. Signing promptly keeps your childminder compliant and means the plan on file genuinely reflects what you've both agreed.

🕰️ Past Reviews

Once your child has been through more than one review cycle, a Past 6-Month Reviews section lists earlier plans — tap one to see the full detail from that review, including what was agreed and when it was signed. If an older review was somehow never co-signed, you can sign it from there too.
