About this tracker

The Learning Tree puts 30 statements from A curriculum for funded non-maintained nursery settings (Welsh Government) onto one painted poster, six for each Developmental Pathway: Belonging, Communication, Exploration, Physical Development and Well-being.

Each leaf quotes one of the curriculum's “I am learning to” statements for 3 to 5 year olds, so the words are the Welsh Government's own and match what you plan from.

The pathways describe how children learn, not targets to reach by a date, so use the leaves to notice and celebrate learning, not as an assessment checklist.

What's inside

  • The Learning Tree poster: 30 leaves across the five Developmental Pathways
  • A second sheet with the full statement behind every leaf
  • A low-ink version of both pages for home printers

How to use it

  1. Print the poster and write the child's name at the top.
  2. Notice each leaf in everyday play, indoors and out, in English or Welsh.
  3. Colour the leaf when the child does it often and with confidence.
  4. Share it with families and use the leaves still to colour as ideas, not targets.
