Check where a child’s EYFS evidence is thin, then draft an End of Year Report from your observations, share it with parents and download it as a PDF.
Childminders in England who want to write an End of Year Report for parents. Needs the Standard plan or a free trial. It takes about ten minutes per child once you have observations logged.
Gap Analysis shows where a child's evidence is thin. The End of Year Report then turns the observations you pick into a draft summary you review, save and share.
Open the Tools tab, tap Reports & Analytics, then Gap Analysis. Choose the child.
The chart plots their observations across the seven EYFS areas. Missing Coverage lists areas with no observations, and Low Coverage lists areas with fewer than three. Detailed Breakdown shows the count for each area. Change the period under Time Range: Term, 3m, 6m or Year.
Back on Reports & Analytics, tap End of Year Report. Choose the child, then set the Start Date and End Date the report covers.
Under Professional Judgement, choose Good Progress, Focus Area or Targeted Support (APDR).
Tap ✨ Auto-fill with AI above Summary of Progress. The Evidence Vault opens with observations from this reporting period. Select the ones that matter, then tap Generate AI Draft.
Compare the draft with what you had, and tap Accept Changes to keep it. Edit anything you want to change.
You can also add a summary for parents, achievements, Next Steps, an Internal Note and the curriculum areas the report covers.
Tap Save Summative Report. KinderStart asks Share with Parents? Choose Share Now, or Save as Draft to share it later from the reports list.
Tap Review Reports. The Reports Archive lists every saved report. This one shows as Summative Assessment with the child's name.
A saved draft says Draft · not shared with parents. Tap Share on its row to share it later.
Tap the report's row in the Reports Archive to open it as a PDF. It carries your logo and registration details, the child's information, your judgement, the summary, achievements and next steps, with space for your signature and the parent's.
makes the report visible in the parent portal straight away. If you want to read it again first, choose
Save as Draft.
The draft is written only from the observations you pick, so every line is backed by evidence you recorded. You review it before saving, and nothing reaches parents until you choose to share.
