Managing Children Who Have Left Your Setting

When a child leaves your childminding setting (for example, starting school or moving away), you want to remove them from your active daily registers and child list without losing any of their historical attendance records, contracts, accident logs, or compliance documents.

KinderStart provides a built-in "Left Setting" feature designed specifically for UK childminders to meet Ofsted and HMRC compliance rules while keeping your daily screens clear.

What Happens When You Mark a Child as "Left Setting"?

1. Hidden from Daily Registers & Active Lists: The child will no longer appear in your active child dropdowns, daily arrival check-ins, or current occupancy counts.
2. 21-Year Data Preservation: All attendance data, contracts, accident and medication logs, invoices, and emergency contact details are safely preserved in KinderStart.
3. Past Children Section: The child is moved to the "Left Setting (Past Children)" section at the bottom of your Children list, allowing you to access their full profile and compliance history at any time.

How to Set a Child as "Left Setting"

1. Open the Children tab from the main menu.
2. Select the child whose status you want to change to open their profile.
3. Tap the Three Dots (...) menu in the top header.
4. Select "Set as Left Setting".
5. Confirm the action in the popup modal.

The child's profile will display a Left Setting banner, and all of their historical records will remain intact.

Re-activating a Child

If a past mindee re-enrols or returns to your setting:

1. Go to your Children list and scroll down to Left Setting (Past Children).
2. Tap the child's profile.
3. Tap the "Re-activate" button on the banner or select "Re-activate Child" from the header menu.

The child will instantly return to your active child lists and daily registers.
