Understanding Regional Frameworks

Because statutory requirements differ by country, KinderStart adjusts the interface based on your child's setting region:

England: SEND & EYFS

• Starting Points: Baselines development across the 3 Prime Areas (Communication & Language, Physical, and PSED).
• Graduated Approach: Implements the statutory four-stage cycle (Assess, Plan, Do, Review).
• Involvement: Directly links with Local Authority SENCOs and local speech and language pathways.

Scotland: ASN & GIRFEC

• SHANARRI Wellbeing Baselines: Assesses children against the 8 wellbeing indicators (Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible, Included).
• Scottish CfE & ASN Factors: Integrates Curriculum for Excellence capacities and Additional Support Needs categories.
• Review Cycle: Enforces SSI 2011/210 compliance requiring formal plan reviews at least once every 6 months.

1. Information Sharing & GDPR Consent

Before sharing child data with external health or educational agencies, you must obtain explicit parent consent.

How to configure consent:

1. Go to the child's profile and tap the SEND / ASN tab.
2. Tap Manage Consent Settings.
3. Toggle the sharing authorization status to Granted.
4. Check the authorized external agencies (e.g. GPs, Speech Therapists, SENCOs).
5. Input the Parent Signature and save.

2. Setting Development Starting Points

Before creating an intervention plan, establish a clear narrative baseline of where the child is today.

For EYFS settings (England):

• Communication & Language: Detail speech milestone baselines and interaction styles.
• Physical Development: Record gross and fine motor capabilities.
• PSED: Note self-regulation progress and peer interactions.

For GIRFEC settings (Scotland):

• Tick the relevant SHANARRI indicator fields that require support.
• Enter a baseline narrative for the affected areas.
• Select the ASN Factors (e.g., learning environment, family circumstances, health/disability) and Curriculum for Excellence capacities.

3. Creating a Support Plan (ISP / Child's Plan)

When a child requires targeted intervention, use the Support Plan Builder to design a custom learning and care roadmap.

The Graduated Approach Wizard:

1. Title & Voice of the Child: Capture the plan's focus and the child's own wishes or preferences (e.g., "I want to talk more in group play").
2. Key Strengths: Highlight what the child does well to build confidence.
3. Targets & Strategies: Define specific, measurable goals alongside practitioners' and parents' support strategies.
4. Sign-offs & Approval: Both the childminder and the parent must digitally sign the plan.
5. Formal Review Cycle: Set a review date. For Scotland (ASN), the review date is automatically capped at a maximum of 6 months.

Common Questions

"What happens if a parent revokes consent?"

The system automatically revokes access. All digital signatures on consent documents and active plans are securely deleted from AWS S3, and existing plans are reverted to restricted drafts to prevent illegal sharing.

"Can I create a Two-Year Check if a child has SEND concerns?"

If a child's Two-Year Check is marked with "SEND Concerns", you must have an active, signed Support Plan in place before you can save the check or generate the PDF.

"How often should I review the plans?"

It is best practice to review plans termly (every 12-14 weeks) in England. In Scotland, the plan must be formally reviewed at least once every 6 months to remain compliant with Care Inspectorate guidelines.
