About this activity pack

These rangoli pattern mats are for childminders in England with children from birth to 4. There are four activities, two for each age band: big chunky mats with no loose materials for babies and toddlers, and symmetry and counting mats for 3 to 4 year olds.

The younger children make big marks, trace a thick swirl and hear lots of colour words. The older children colour the matching half of a rangoli and count sticker dots onto numbered petals. It all fits with the EYFS and Development Matters, and covers early talk, mark making, shape and number.

Each activity takes one sheet, a few crayons or paints and a bit of tape, so you can bring it out for a Diwali week or in a quiet half hour. The Rama and Sita story cards give you a short way to tell the Diwali story in your own words, with a simpler set for under-3s.
